NGO MANAGEMENT & ADMINISTRATION

The Program

This program is focused on those who are interested in starting their own charity or want hands-on experience in working in an NGO. Volunteers and interns observe and assist the coordinator with office work, as well as in-community project support, administrative work and the coordination and supervision of community programs.

Fundación Aldeas de Paz

Their mission is to connect people with locals in Malawi, for skills sharing, expertise sharing and center for international internees, through education and productive projects that generate well-being for the members of the communities. Their projects aim to reduce poverty and inequalities,  through education and sustainable strategies focused on skills sharing and ethical volunteering. and social well-being.

The Location

The volunteer program is based in the center of Zomba Malosa in Malawi. The fourth city in southern Malawi, in the Shire Highlands, this gorgeous paradise, replete with streams, lakes and tumbling waterfalls, is home to monkeys, bushbucks, and birds including mountain wagtails and Bertram's weavers.

Volunteer Day

The day starts at 7 am with breakfast at the volunteer lodge, at 8 you will travel to the place where the activities will take place, transportation is provided by the NGO. Volunteer activities will take place from 10 am to 12 am at the placement sites on education, elderly and youth care, teaching/playing sports and career guidance with the students. From 12 am to 1.30 pm lunchtime at the volunteer lodge. More social or cultural activities from 2 pm to 6 pm. At 7 pm dinner time. 

Cultural Activities

Visit Mangochi and Salima towns where you can explore Lake Malawi by boat riding, swimming, etc., the world's freshwater lake. The markets and local food according to your choice. One day trip at the Liwonde national park (animal sanctuary - elephants, hippos, lions, etc...). Golomoti health Centre and watch different dances like Mgulewamkulu, Ingoma, Mganda. Visit the Mulanje Mountain (third tallest mountain in Africa), Museum of Malawi and move around Blantyre, the commercial city of Malawi.

THE REQUIREMENTS

In order to join the program, you need to be at least 18 years old. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if you are accompanied by your parents.

You need to speak English (basic level).

Language Skills

No restrictions. Volunteers from all over the world are welcome.

Nationality Restrictions

Volunteer hours will be around 30 per week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

WHAT IS INCLUDED

Services by the organization

Fees are used to provide food, accommodation, local transportation, volunteer and cultural activities for you, and for the program sustainability, management, and support.

Accommodation

You will stay at Chilema ecumenical center with over 200 rooms, in shared bedrooms with a maximum of 4 volunteers in (single beds, same gender). All the rooms are equipped with A/C/FAN. Chilema ecumenical center is equipped with a dining room, where volunteers can relax and have access to WI-FI and DSTV. Laundry facilities available.

Local Transportation

Your airport pick-up is included in your Program Fee. Your pickup/leave will be made by an NGO volunteer coaster or taxi at the airport by a member of the local team and transported to the volunteer accommodation in Malosa Zomba.

Food & Meals

Your Program Fee covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the program, which is served at the volunteer accommodation. Volunteers can buy lunch from restaurants in Bishop's restraint (3 minutes’ walk from the volunteer house). If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know ahead of time so that we can make arrangements for you. Remember that you should be open to trying new foods and be flexible with your eating habits and we will do our best to see that you are well taken care of. All the diets are inclusive for vegetarian and non-vegetarian. (Chips –Rice-spaghetti with chicken, fish eggs sausage and fruits, etc). Our organization provides 24/7 nurses in the case of emergencies.

Cultural Activities

2 days per week of sightseeing, cultural activities, and coexistence with nature. Volunteers will have activities during the day, which will last around 6 hours.

Training & Development

You will receive training on arrival for volunteering activities and a social entrepreneurship course at Instituto Tecnologico de Tlaxiaco (1 day).

Internet Access

Wi-Fi is available for volunteers in the accommodation site, but there is no WI-FI to the locations of volunteering. You can also buy a local SIM card with data for a mobile phone to keep connected.

Digital Badge/Certification

Digital badges are intelligent certification logos that provide an effective means of communicating and promoting your accreditations via digital and online mediums. Each digital badge contains pre-validated metadata that can be used to verify your certification status.

Flight Tickets

Visas

Visa requirements can vary from nationality to nationality. You will need a passport issued by your country of citizenship as well as a tourist visa* issued by the country to which you will be traveling. Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the expected date of return to your home country.

Vaccinations

Make sure you are up to date on routine vaccines before every trip. You should ideally arrange an appointment with your travel clinic at least four to six weeks before travel.  In case you have pre-existing health problems, an earlier appointment is strongly recommended.

Payment (how works)

1 - Initial Payment (included in the program costs)

After you receive the confirmation email, you must make a €50 payment that is simply to reserve your volunteer placement in the selected program. The payment is 100% refundable if you cancel your program. Payments are handled by PayPal or credit card. 

2 - Final Payment

Your final payment will be made directly to the organization according to the details provided. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
